The journey of the ‘happy triangle’ started in 1868 at the confectionery shop of Jean Tobler in Bern, Switzerland. The demand for Tobler’s chocolate products was so great that Jean Tobler founded a chocolate factory of his own in 1899.
Years later, Jean Tobler’s son Theodor Tobler and his cousin Emil Baumann invented a unique chocolate bar, the Toblerone! The name is derived by combining its creator’s name ‘Tobler’ and ‘Torrone’ the Italian word for honey and almond nougat.
Today, Toblerone is enjoyed in over 100 countries across the globe. And here is a fun fact about the chocolate bar: if you laid out all of the Toblerone chocolate bars that were sold each year — it would be 62,000 kilometres long. That’s longer than the circumference of the Earth!!!
